This area has been attracting many intellectuals since the 17th century. It seems that Saint-Germain-des-Prés has always inspired them. The well-known Café de Flore, Les Deux Magots, Le Procope and the Brasserie Lipp were meeting places for animated debates between passionate writers and philosophers. Today, the literary atmosphere still persists with many bookshops, publishers and art galleries having settled in this neighbourhood and especially Rue de Seine.
